동문회장 인사말

존경하는 EWC 동문 여러분께,

안녕하십니까. 2026년부터 EWC Korea 동문회장을 맡게 된 양병무입니다.

먼저 그동안 동문회를 위해 헌신해 오신 전임 이광석 회장님께 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드립니다. 이광석 회장님께서는 동문회의 기반을 다지고 많은 동문들이 함께 참여할 수 있도록 동문회를 활성화하는 데 큰 역할을 해주셨습니다. 저 역시 그분의 동문회에 대한 사랑과 헌신을 본받아 훌륭하신 역대 회장님들을 모시고, 부족하지만 누가 되지 않도록 최선을 다하겠습니다.

우리가 함께 보냈던 하와이의 시간은 생각만 해도 따뜻한 미소를 짓게 합니다. 많은 사람들이 일주일만 머물러도 감탄하는 그곳에서 우리는 장학금을 받고 공부하며 삶을 나누는 행운과 축복을 누렸습니다. 특히 마노아 계곡에 걸리던 영롱한 무지개처럼 우리끼리 많은 이야기를 나누었고, 다양한 나라에서 온 사람들과 만나 서로의 문화를 이해하며 더 넓은 세상을 바라보았던 시간은 우리 모두에게 소중한 추억이자 자산이 되었습니다.

EWC의 경험이 우리에게 가르쳐 준 가장 중요한 가치는 서로를 사랑하고 존중하며 연결하는 ‘알로하(Aloha)’의 정신이었습니다. 이 따뜻한 알로하의 마음이 우리 동문회 안에서 지금까지 그랬던 것처럼 계속 울려 퍼지기를 소망합니다.

앞으로 더 많은 동문님들이 서로 만나 교류하고 우정과 지혜를 나눌 수 있도록 다양한 ‘만남의 장’을 마련하기 위해 노력하겠습니다.

자랑스러운 그 이름, ‘EWC 동문회!’

마노아 계곡의 아름다운 무지개 아래에서 시작된 우리의 인연이 앞으로도 오래도록 이어지기를 바랍니다.

선배님들과 후배님들의 관심과 참여, 그리고 협력을 부탁드립니다.

동문회장 양병무

Dear Distinguished EWC Alumni,

Greetings.

My name is Byoung Moo Yang, and I have the honor of serving as President of the EWC Korea Alumni Association beginning in 2026.

First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to former President Kwang-Seok Lee for his dedicated service to our alumni association. During his tenure, he played an important role in strengthening the foundation of the association and encouraging greater participation among our members. Following his example of devotion and love for the alumni community, I will do my best—together with our esteemed former presidents—to serve the association faithfully, though I may still have much to learn.

The time we spent together in Hawaii always brings warm smiles whenever we think of it. In a place that many people admire even after staying for just a week, we had the privilege and blessing of studying there on scholarship while sharing our lives and experiences with one another. 

Like the brilliant rainbows over Manoa Valley, we shared countless conversations among ourselves and met people from many different countries. Through these encounters we came to understand diverse cultures and gained a broader perspective on the world. Those moments remain precious memories and enduring assets for all of us.

One of the most important values we learned from our experience at the East-West Center was the spirit of Aloha - a spirit of respect, connection, and mutual understanding. It is my hope that this warm Aloha spirit will continue to resonate within our alumni community, just as it has done until now.

Looking ahead, I will strive to create many opportunities for our alumni to meet, reconnect, and share friendship and wisdom with one another.The proud name we share - “EWC Alumni.”

May the bond that began below the beautiful rainbows of Manoa Valley continue for many years to come. I sincerely ask for your interest, participation, and support.
